Southern Copper Corp’s (“SCC”) El Pilar Copper Project is located in north-central Sonora, Mexico approximately 15 km south of the international border with the United States, approximately 45 kilometers from SCC’s Buenavista mine.
In February 2022, the results of a S-K 1300 Technical Report Feasibility Study were published, which outlined an open pit oxide copper mine producing copper cathode with a mine life of 15 years and average annual copper production of approximately 60 million pounds of copper at a total operating cost of US$1.84/lb.
Estimated Proven & Probable Reserves as at December 31, 2021 at El Pilar are 317 Mt of ore with an average copper grade of 0.25% (cut-off grade was determined based on metallurgical recovery and operating costs).
Following the completion of the Feasibility Study, SCC has disclosed that the basic engineering study is completed and development of the project is ongoing. SCC estimates that production at El Pilar will commence in 2025.
